What is Meditation?
Meditation is the spiritual practice of stilling the mind, opening the heart, and becoming present to the Divine within. At Meditation Church, meditation is both a practice and a lifestyle—a way of living from the Christ Mind, rooted in stillness, love, and divine awareness.
What does the word “meditation” mean?
The word meditation comes from the Latin meditatio, meaning “to contemplate, reflect, or ponder.” It is related to mederi, meaning “to heal”—showing that meditation is not just a spiritual discipline, but also a form of mental, emotional, and soul healing.
In Hebrew, the word הגה (hagah) means to muse, murmur, or deeply reflect, especially on sacred words.
In Greek, μελετάω (meletao) means to practice, care for, or give oneself to something consistently.
What is meditative living?
Meditative living is the art of carrying the spirit of meditation into every part of life. It means:
- Living with a quiet mind and an open heart
- Responding to life from inner peace rather than reactivity
- Listening for God in stillness, nature, and silence
- Walking in the world with consciousness, compassion, and calm
Meditation is not just what we do in silence—it is how we live in the Spirit.
Biblical foundations for meditation
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
— Psalm 1:2 (KJV)
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord…”
— Psalm 19:14 (KJV)
“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection…”
— Hebrews 6:1 (KJV)
Other sacred voices on meditation
“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back.”
— The Buddha
“When the mind is silent, beyond weakness or distraction, it enters into the world of Spirit—the highest end.”
— Upanishads
Is Meditation Church a Christian Church?
Meditation Church is devoted to the Gospel of the Kingdom of God within, as revealed by Yeshua (Jesus) the Christ. We are Christian, but we do not limit ourselves to the word “Christian”—a term never used by Yeshua himself.
We honour Christ not merely as a man of history, but as the eternal anointed presence—the divine light of Love, Wisdom, and Truth within all people. Our path is grounded in his teachings, yet open to the universal truths revealed through many sacred traditions.
“The Kingdom of God is within you.” — Luke 17:21
“By their fruits you shall know them.” — Matthew 7:20
“Truth is one; the wise call it by many names.” — Rig Veda
Meditation Church is a spiritual sanctuary for sincere seekers—those who long to live from the Spirit, beyond religious labels, into the stillness where God speaks.
Does Meditation Church take collections during services, and how does it support its administration?
As a charitable, unincorporated association, Meditation Church depends upon the generosity of its members, congregants and friends. Donations are taken during its services, and you may learn about other tithing and giving opportunities by visiting our Donation page.
