What is Meditation?
Meditation is the spiritual practice of stilling the mind, opening the heart, and becoming present to the Divine within. At Meditation Church, meditation is both a practice and a lifestyle—a way of living from the Christ Mind, rooted in stillness, love, and divine awareness.
What does the word “meditation” mean?
The word meditation comes from the Latin meditatio, meaning “to contemplate, reflect, or ponder.” It is related to mederi, meaning “to heal”—showing that meditation is not just a spiritual discipline, but also a form of mental, emotional, and soul healing.
In Hebrew, the word הגה (hagah) means to muse, murmur, or deeply reflect, especially on sacred words.
In Greek, μελετάω (meletao) means to practice, care for, or give oneself to something consistently.
What is meditative living?
Meditative living is the art of carrying the spirit of meditation into every part of life. It means:
- Living with a quiet mind and an open heart
- Responding to life from inner peace rather than reactivity
- Listening for God in stillness, nature, and silence
- Walking in the world with consciousness, compassion, and calm
Meditation is not just what we do in silence—it is how we live in the Spirit.
Biblical foundations for meditation
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
— Psalm 1:2 (KJV)
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord…”
— Psalm 19:14 (KJV)
“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection…”
— Hebrews 6:1 (KJV)
Other sacred voices on meditation
“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back.”
— The Buddha
“When the mind is silent, beyond weakness or distraction, it enters into the world of Spirit—the highest end.”
— Upanishads
What is Universal Spirituality?
Universal Spirituality is the path of recognizing that Truth is One, though expressed in many ways. It is the awareness that every culture, every sacred path, and every soul carries a spark of the Divine, and that no single tradition has a monopoly on God.
📖 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world (kosmos, universe): he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” — John 8:12 (KJV)
The word universal comes from the Latin universus — meaning “whole, entire, turned into one.” Spirituality, from spiritus (Latin for “breath” or “life-force”), reminds us that the same Breath of God moves through all people, creatures, and creation. Together, the phrase “Universal Spirituality” points to the oneness of all life and the unity behind all diversity.
📖 “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” — Ephesians 4:4–6 (NKJV)
Universal Spirituality honours the wisdom of every sacred path — the Bible, the Vedas, the Tao Te Ching, the Quran, the teachings of Buddha, Indigenous traditions, and beyond. It is not about blending them into one religion, but about recognising the golden thread of Divine Love and Truth that runs through them all.
📖 “Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words.” — Proverbs 1:20–21 (NKJV)
Nature is the first and most universal scripture. Before there were temples or books, humanity learned from the stars, the trees, the rivers, and the rhythms of the Earth. To walk in Universal Spirituality is to see the Divine Presence in all of creation — in the eagle’s flight, the ocean’s tide, and the breath within your chest.
📖 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge.” — Psalm 19:1–2 (KJV)
At Meditation Church, Universal Spirituality means:
- Honouring all paths while being rooted in Christ Love.
- Embracing the oneness of humanity and creation.
- Learning from Nature as the living temple of Spirit.
- Living beyond division into a consciousness of unity and love.
🌍 Universal Spirituality = The Light of Christ shining through the whole universe, the Breath of God in all things, the unity of all paths, and the sacred wisdom of Nature.
